New England (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont) currently has a single Republican in its 33-member congressional delegation: Senator Susan Collins of Maine. All 21 House seats in the region and 11 of the 12 Senate seats are held by Democrats or Independents who caucus with them. The Republican Party has historically maintained a presence in the region since its founding, and a total shutout would reportedly be the first of its kind since 1856. While all 435 House seats and approximately one-third of the Senate are up for election in November 2026, Susan Collins is the only New England Republican currently in office whose presence dictates the region's partisan status; however, her current term in the 117th Congress does not expire until January 3, 2027. Consequently, any change to the region's "zero Republican" status by the end of February 2027 would depend on the outcomes of the 2026 midterm elections or mid-term vacancies.
